Lady Gaga Follows Up ‘Wednesday’ Viral Dance With ‘The Dead Dance’ In Tim Burton-Directed Video

Lady Gaga is setting up Wednesday for a new viral dance trend with the release of the Tim Burton-directed video “The Dead Dance.”

The music video was filmed on Mexico’s Isla de las Muñecas, an island located amid the channels of Xochimilco in Mexico City, notable for its variety of dolls in different styles and colors.

Shifting between black-and-white and bursts of vivid color, “The Dead Dance” music video weaves eerie imagery of dolls with Gaga’s singularly original performance. The video was produced by Gaga and Michael Polansky, alongside Burton and Natalie Testa.

Costumes were designed by Colleen Atwood, with choreography from Parris Goebel and featured choreography from Corey Baker.

The Dead Dance made its debut alongside the release of Netflix’s Wednesday Season 2, Part 2 where Lady Gaga makes a cameo as Rosaline Rotwood.

Gaga shared “the inspiration for ‘The Dead Dance’ was a breakup, and it was all about the way that we sometimes feel when it’s over; how a relationship ending can kill our ability to feel hopeful about love. It’s got this really cool, funky beat underneath it. And that is when the song becomes not just about the relationship; it becomes about having fun with your friends when you’ve been through something tough and amazing. I can’t wait for people to listen to it.”

Lady Gaga’s cameo on Wednesday comes after the viral Wednesday dance from Season 1 was paired with a sped-up version of “Bloody Mary.” The edit of Gaga’s song and Jenna Ortega’s dance became a viral hit on TikTok, with users jumping on the trend to recreate the moment.
