Batter up!
Abbott Elementary will be taking a field trip to Citizens Bank Park this season for a Philadelphia Phillies game.
ABC revealed Friday that the cast filmed an episode of Season 5 at Thursday’s matchup against the Atlanta Braves, officially confirming some news teased by creator and star Quinta Brunson, who said at San Diego Comic-Con that the series would be filming at a “live event” this season and that “Philly sports fans will be very happy.”
Their appearance at the game was also confirmed via this Phillie Phanatic Instagram post featuring the cast on the field with the iconic mascot.
In a statement Friday, MLB Studios gave some details on how the episode came about: “As big fans of the series, MLB Studios initiated outreach to Warner Brothers and subsequently the Phillies to get the shooting process started. Collaboration between MLB Studios, the Phillies and the show commenced to shoot a bottle episode on-location at a Phillies game, with a goal of ensuring authenticity and access to the field.”
Watch on Deadline
This is, of course, not the first time that Abbott Elementary has interacted with Philly sports. The Season 2 premiere featured Gritty, the famous Philadelphia Flyers mascot, who comes to the school to surprise students on their first day. In Season 3, Philadelphia Eagles players Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce and Brandon Graham appeared via video chat for career day.
