Greg Berlanti & Bash Doran’s Boarding School Drama ‘Foster Dade’ Gets Hulu Pilot Order

Hulu has handed a pilot order to Foster Dade, a mystery YA drama from You co-creator Greg Berlanti, Bash Doran (Life After Life) and Warner Bros. Television where Berlanti Productions is under an overall deal.

Hulu in April bought Berlanti and Doran’s spec script for the project based on Nash Jenkins’ debut novel Foster Dade Explores the Cosmos, fast-tracking it for a pilot order.

Taking place in 2008 and present day, Foster Dade is described as a sophisticated mystery set at an East Coast boarding school that explores privilege, scandal, sexuality and masculinity amid the rise of social media, millennial anxiety and pharmaceuticals.

Berlanti Prods.’ Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman executive produce alongside Doran, Jenkins, Robbie Rogers as well as Donald De Line of De Line Pictures who has developed a movie with Doran.

Somewhat atypical for a streamer, Hulu has been increasingly leaning into the pilot development model, ordering both comedy and drama pilots.

This is one of three drama projects co-written by Berlanti that the prolific showrunner set up earlier this year, including Stillwater, co-written by Carly Wray based on the Skybound comic book series, which has a series order at Prime Video; and a family drama for HBO Max, also with Doran. The company also has NBC medical drama Brilliant Minds, which is returning for a second season, the CW’s All American, renewed for an eighth and final season, and a Scooby-Doo live-action series at Netflix. Berlanti is repped by CAA.

Doran’s movie Henry, financed by Studio Canal, will shoot in 2026, starring Ralph Fiennes. She is writing an adaptation of Witness For the Prosecution for 20th Century Studios, and also developing a limited series for MGM Television with Anne Hathaway and an anthology series for Apple TV+ with Playtone. She created and executive produced Traitors for Channel 4 and Netflix, was a co-executive producer on Hulu’s The Looming Tower and co-wrote the Netflix film Outlaw King starring Chris Pine and directed by David Mackenzie. Doran is repped by UTA, Untitled Entertainment and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham.

De Line, whose De Line Pictures banner is based at Warner Bros., is repped by Erik Hyman at Paul Hastings.
