‘Misfits’ Creator Howard Overman Writing ‘Hit Point’ For Canal+ & UKTV’s U&Dave

Misfits and The War of the Worlds writer Howard Overman has penned a six-part police thriller drama for Canal+ and UKTV-owned British network U&Dave.

Hit Point has been developed and produced by Paris Has Fallen maker Urban Myth Films, with Canal+ co-financing and Studiocanal handling worldwide sales and distribution.

David Caffrey (The Gentleman) is directing, and Johnny Capps, Julian Murphy and Overman are exec producers.

Filming stars next month and the plan is for Hit Point to launch on Canal+ in 50-plus territories across France, Europe, Africa and Asia, and on streamer U and U&Dave next year, marking the linear network’s first original drama series. Casting announcements will follow at a later date.

For Canal+, this marks a second UK co-production in two days, with Channel 4 last night unveiling Army of Shadows, a remake of the 1969 film of the same name from The Day of the Jackal and Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett. Both shows were unveiled to coincide with the Edinburgh TV Festival, which is running this week.

The series is billed as an “adrenaline-charged blend of high-stakes crime thriller and sizzling romantic drama, following thirtysomething detectives Leo and Bella as their latest case pulls them into a dangerous West London underworld. On the hunt for answers, the lines between their personal and professional lives blur with every twist and betrayal.”

Overman said it had been “a joy to create a show that blends high-octane thrills with heart, humour and a love story at its core.” UKTV’s Helen Perry, who commissioned the show along with Emma Tibbetts and Hilary Rosen, said it was the perfect first scripted drama commission for U&Dave and U, and a marker of our ambition for drama on the channel.”

M-K Kennedy, Managing Director of Studiocanal Television, added: “Howard, Johnny and Julian are masters of heart-pounding action. It’s so gratifying to fully support them as they bring added wit and romance to the genre with Hit Point and their first UKTV commission.”

U&Dave (fka Dave) is known primarily for running comedy repeats of popular British shows, but has also commissioned unscripted series including Will & Ralf Should Know BetterSilence is Golden and the BAFTA-winning Big Zuu’s Big Eats.
