EXCLUSIVE: A new single-cam comedy from comedian Aaron Karo is in early development at CBS. The script for Blanks will be written by Karo, who executive produces the project alongside Wilmer Valderrama‘s production banner, WV Entertainment.

Blanks follows a serial dater whose life is turned upside down when he learns his biological clock is running out, just as he meets the woman of his dreams, who isn’t ready to settle down yet.

Karo is a comedian, screenwriter, podcaster, and #1 New York Times bestselling author. His latest feature, Tickle Me Elmo, was voted #8 on the 2024 Black List and is being developed by Misher Films. He recently sold the spec pilot Lexapros and Cons to Awesomeness TV with frequent collaborator Lindsey Rosin, based on Karo’s young adult novel of the same name.

Previously, he created the Channing Tatum and Michael B. Jordan animated vehicle Germany, which received a pilot presentation at Comedy Central. Karo is the author of seven books and the co-author of the #1 New York Times bestseller The Hidden Power of F*cking Up. He starred in the one-hour Comedy Central stand-up special, Aaron Karo: The Rest Is History. He is also the co-host of the podcast Man of the Year. He is repped by Gersh, Linden Entertainment, and attorney Darren Trattner.

Valderrama founded WV Entertainment in 2006, focusing on boundary-pushing, emotionally resonant storytelling. From animation and scripted series to unscripted formats and narrative audio, the team has spent the last 20 years producing programming including the runaway hit Netflix docuseries Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult, the MTV series Yo Momma, Netflix animated films Dog Gone Trouble and Charming, and Disney Channel’s Handy Manny, the first ever bilingual animated series.

Currently under their first-look deal with CBS Studios, WVE has a robust slate in development including the comedy series Mexican Beverly Hills and the adaptation of Dave Gutierrez’s book Patriots from the Barrio, which explores the history of a segregated U.S. Army combat unit comprised of Mexican Americans from South Texas that was part of the first division to set foot in Europe in World War II.
