Brandon Larracuente Joins ‘Chicago Fire’ As Series Regular Amid Efforts To Find New Home For ‘On Call’

As it often happens in the Dick Wolf universe, as one Wolf Entertainment series comes to an end, talent from it gets transferred to another one. The latest example is On Call star Brandon Larracuente who has joined Chicago Fire as a series regular on its upcoming 14th season for NBC. He will play a key member of Firehouse 51.

Larracuente has come on board Chicago Fire after On Call was canceled by Prime Video in early May following failed renewal negotiations with Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television that at one point involved a possible two-season pickup.

As Deadline reported exclusively at the time, the half-hour action police drama, starring Troian Bellisario and Larracuente, was shopped to other platforms, garnering interest from two places. These conversations did not lead to a deal and, a month and a half later, On Call is over for now. Efforts to land a Season 2 pickup continue in the background, I hear. That will likely be a long shot but the Season 1 finale did open a possibility for Larracuente’s Officer Alex Diaz to depart.

With On Call’s future in serious doubt, Wolf and Universal TV recruited Larracuente for veteran Chicago Fire, something they have done numerous times, including Chicago P.D.’s Jesse Lee Soffer joining FBI: International and Dylan McDermott moving from Law & Order: Organized Crime to FBI: Most Wanted.

Larracuente joins Chicago Fire as two series regulars, Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett, departed after the end of Season 13, leaving Firehouse 51 down two firefighters.

Previously, Larracuente portrayed Dr. Danny Perez on ABC’s The Good Doctor. His other notable credits include Netflix series Bloodline and 13 Reasons Why and Freeform’s Party of Five.

His Chicago Fire casting was first reported by Variety.
