Netflix ANZ Content Chief Que Minh Luu Exiting

Netflix Australia and New Zealand content chief Que Minh Luu is leaving the streaming service.

She will remain as a creative consultant for an unspecified length of time, but is exiting her post as Director of Content for Netflix ANZ.

Under Minh Luu’s watch, Netflix has created local originals such as Heartbreak High, Boy Swallows Universe and Apple Cider Vinegar. However, recent big swing Territory was not renewed for a second season despite posting strong numbers after launch in October last year.

The former ABC exec had joined Netflix in 2020 to oversee originals in Australia and expanded her role to the wider ANZ (Australia and New Zealand) operation in January 2021.

Her previous roles include Executive Producer for Drama, Comedy and Indigenous at the ABC and a scripted development post at Matchbox Pictures.

“Que is hugely talented creative, and we are enormously grateful for the work she has done in first launching our ANZ content team, and then building an impressive slate of loved titles like Heartbreak High, Boy Swallows Universe, and Apple Cider Vinegar,” said Netflix VP, Content for APAC Minyoung Kim. “We wish Que every success for the future, and are pleased we’ll be able to continue working with her on our ANZ slate as a creative consultant as we continue with an exciting local storytelling journey.”

Her departure won’t mean Netflix is rowing back from originals in Australia and New Zealand, with plans to invest further in the local market remaining in place.
