Adam Scott Reminisces About ‘Parks And Recreation’: “I Miss The Time Of Making It”

Adam Scott may have traded his Cones of Dunshire skills for Macro Data Refinement, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten about Pawnee.

In an interview for Josh Horowitz‘s Happy Sad Confused podcast promoting the second season of Apple TV+’s Severance, the two-time Emmy nominee reflected on his comedic roots, including his time on the beloved NBC mockumentary Parks and Recreation.

“I haven’t seen the show in a long time,” Scott said after Horowitz played a clip of character Ben Wyatt’s much-memed “Do you think a depressed person could make this?” scene. “Honestly because it makes me sad to see the show, because I miss them and I miss all the actors even though we’re constantly in touch and stuff, but I miss the time of making it.”

Though the cast members — which include Amy Poehler, Retta, Rashida Jones, Aubrey Plaza, Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, Jim O’Heir, Rob Lowe and Aziz Ansari — keep in touch through a “text chain,” Scott admitted he’s nostalgic about the era (which boasted golden comedy hits, overlapping with then-airing network compatriots 30 Rock, The Office and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the latter two of which were made in part by the co-creators of Parks).

“It was a really just joyful 5 years — for me, 7 years for the show — getting to go work there every day with that group of people. We had so much fun and we’re making something that meant something to people; it meant something to us,” he said.

About a local parks and recreation department set in a fictional town in Indiana and the quirky personalities who work there, Parks and Rec ran across seven seasons from 2009 to 2015, earning 14 Emmy nods throughout its tenure.

When asked if a reunion could be in store in the future (the cast previously reunited virtually amid the pandemic), Scott said that would be up to the show’s creators Michael Schur and Greg Daniels.

“The show itself, the series finale kind of took us to the end. It jumped pretty far ahead into the future, so I’m not sure what else there is to add, but it’s entirely not up to me at all,” he concluded.
